Pat only has 2 rules on this trip (he’s doing all the driving)-no driving on Sundays and we have to be set up for Bears games. Thing is…Bears start at 10am for the foreseeable future. Yadda yadda yadda Lenny peed on our outdoor tv to seal the deal so we listened to the game on totally biased Bears radio (I’d argue this is better then watching live tv) and had the most beautiful day of our trip so far. Wine tasting in Mt. Hood.

He was having an heart attack. We ended up doing CPR for 50 min before help arrived. 9/10-9/12: Red Cliff Campground; Big Sky, MTBig Sky is definitely high on our list of places to get back to. Sweet ski town. Really cool spot to wine and dine…or fish and hunt if that’s your thing.
9/13: Wild Rye Cattle Ranch; Deer Lodge, MTStayed on a very nice family cattle ranch. Wally ditched school to spend most of the day interacting with the sheep, cows, horses, chickens and farm dogs & kittens.
9/14: Whitetail Golf Course; Stevensville, MTChecked out the local high school football game on Friday night. Apparently the reservation teams in Montana are pretty good, hard to believe with only a handful of players and coaches. When we returned to the golf course, where we were staying, the gate was locked so we ditched the truck and hoofed it in pitch black through the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge to get back to the camper.  Kinda scary after being in Grizzly country for the past 2 weeks but also pretty awesome to see all those stars and maybe even the a glimpse of the northern lights, we think.
After some chit chat with the golf pro we found out he was a Bears fan. He traded a box of range balls Pat had on hand for his season tickets to the Griz game. We golfed a few holes then headed north to Missoula. The Griz smoked Morehead State. Wally’s got University of Montana on his top 10 colleges list now. Missoula is a really cool college town that’s worth checking out.
9/15-9/17: Wolf Lodge; Coeur D’Alene, IDWho knew the Idaho panhandle would be such a cool place to visit. Wally’s pissed we haven’t had any potatoes yet but he still had a great time rock climbing and hiking Tubbs Hill. If you’re looking for a fun family summer trip, put this on your list. Between Coeur D’Alene lake and the forest surrounding it, there’s a ton to do.
Montana and Idaho are Wallys 30th and 31st state he’s slept in. Heading now to 32…Washington!

9/5-9/8: KOA Holiday in Cody, WYEntered Yellowstone National Park through the East entrance. More buffalo traffic stops and some bear sightings through Canyon Village. The exit out of the Northeast section into Silvergate, Montana had arguably the most breathtaking views we’ve ever seen. Beartooth Highway and Chief Joseph scenic byway are incredible ways to get in/out of the park from the East.
Downtown Cody has a lot to offer. Nightly rodeos and gun fight/shootout reenactments in front of Buffalo Bills Irma Hotel were really entertaining.
9/8-9/10: Rainbow Point Campground in West Yellowstone, MT./Gallatin National Forest
Entered the park through the East gate on our way out of Cody. The South loop didn’t have nearly as much wildlife but offers countless hot springs (Grand Prismatic hot spring), geysers (Old Faithful) and great views of Yellowstone Lake. Exited out West gate.
We filled our fresh water tank for the first time to live off the grid a little. Pat figured out how to take a bath in our 3x4 shower tub. I envisioned this tub to be for our 8lb dog…or our feet…but Pat found a way.

Baths are a big deal for Pat if you don’t know that already. We now have no more water.
Northwest bound now….Go Bears!

Life on the road has begun!
8/31-9/2: First night ever in the RV spent boondocking in a Go-Kart race track parking lot (Skyline Racetrack) in Rochester, MN. Pat nearly ruined Labor Day weekend and America in general by smashing into a Bald Eagle. We thought it was a hawk on the side of the road then…nope….a freakin Bald Eagle opened up its giant wings and nearly flew right into the windshield.

9/1-9/4: Southwest South DakotaExplored Black Hills National Forest and Custer State Park. Drove the Needles highway and the Wildlife loop where herds of buffalo blocked our truck. Lenny showed no fear. Mount Rushmore and sunflower fields along I-90 are cool to see in person. The famous Wall Drug, not so much.
The rest of the time we’ve spent learning the hillbilly ropes. People are so helpful and kind. Our space is small but we don’t need much. No ones christened the RV bathroom yet so that’s good. Kinda cool walking around in robes without a care in the world. Days filled with exploring, school and work as “usual.” Wally started 3rd grade & Pat started teaching remotely with Menta Tech (high school math & science SPED). Nights filled with Sorry, Uno, music, fantasy football drafts & wine.

Off we go!
